Biography:
PRO: As a midseason roster addition in 2006, Tony Brown quickly proved to be a versatile member of the defensive line rotation. Now, entering his first full season with the Titans and his third season in the NFL, he expects to contribute even more to the defense. The Chattanooga native has seen most of his playing time at defensive tackle but also has contributed at defensive end. In 29 career games, he has recorded six starts, 78 tackles, 2.5 sacks, 13 quarterback pressures, four tackles for loss, three passes defensed, a blocked PAT and two fumble recoveries with one touchdown. The Titans, Brown’s fourth NFL team, signed him as a free agent on October 3, 2006 after he was released by the Carolina Panthers on September 23, 2006. He was signed by the Panthers on January 9, 2006 and then allocated to NFL Europe’s Amsterdam Admirals. There he earned NFL Europe Co-Defensive MVP, playing in 10 games (nine starts) and recording 40 tackles, four sacks, one fumble recovery, one interception and five passes defensed. He returned from Amsterdam to rejoin the Panthers and spent the first two weeks of the season on their active roster before being released. In 2005, Brown was out of football after being waived by the San Francisco 49ers prior to the season. In 2004, Brown played for the 49ers in all 16 games with four starts and registered 27 tackles, one sack and three passes defensed. As a rookie in 2003, Brown spent 13 games on the Panthers practice squad before being signed to Miami’s active roster for the final three games of the season. Brown was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Panthers on May 2, 2003. TITANS TIDBITS: • After being released by the Carolina Panthers in September 2006, Brown returned home to Chattanooga and hoped his phone would ring. Sitting in church shortly thereafter, it did. His prayers were answered when he felt his phone vibrate with a call from his agent, informing him through a text message the Titans were interested in his services. • Off the field, Brown spends a great deal of time fishing the Mississippi River near Memphis. He also enjoys playing pickup basketball. CAREER HIGHLIGHTS: IN 2006, played one game with the Carolina Panthers and then 12 contests with the Tennessee Titans, including one start. Set career highs in tackles (51), sacks (1.5), quarterback pressures (13), tackles for loss (four), fumble recoveries (two) and touchdowns (one). Added one blocked PAT against New England (12/31). • With Panthers, played in season opener against Atlanta (9/10/06) and was inactive at Minnesota (9/17/06) before being released on Sept. 23. • After being signed on Oct. 3, made his Titans debut at Indianapolis (10/8). • Against Houston (10/29), set career high with eight tackles and added two fumble recoveries and one quarterback pressure. Returned one of his fumble recoveries for touchdown. With 18 seconds remaining in second quarter, picked up David Carr fumble caused by Kyle Vanden Bosch and returned it for 40 yards for score to extend Titans lead to 14-3. • Against Baltimore (11/12), combined with Keith Bulluck to force Steve McNair out of end zone for sack and safety. Totaled seven tackles, half sack and two quarterback pressures. • Against New England (12/31), recorded four tackles, one sack and one blocked extra point attempt. Sack gave him 1.5 for season and 2.5 for his career. Blocked PAT was first of career. IN 2005, attended
