| Having finally overcome the effects of a major knee surgery, Simon is looking to live up to the billing he enjoyed as the most ballyhooed recruit in Tennessee’s 2001 signing class. Although stiffness in the knee limited him to roughly 75 percent effectiveness during spring practice, Simon showed signs that he is healthy again and ready to contribute at outside linebacker. 2001- Redshirted. 2000 - A first-team Parade, PrepStar, SuperPrep and USA TODAY All-American. Named by Rivals.com as the national Defensive Player of the Year and ranked as the nation’s No. 2 overall prospect. Tom Lemming ranked him as the No. 33 overall prospect in America and the third-best linebacker. The Las Vegas Sun also named him to its Super 11 first-team. A three-time all-state pick, he earned all-league honors on both sides of the ball as a senior, helping La Salle Highl finish the 2000 season ranked No. 1 in the USA Today Super 25 high school rankings. In 2000, he recorded 141 tackles, forced four fumbles and had two interceptions. On offense, rushed for 1,283 yards and 16 touchdowns on 133 carries in helping De La Salle toa 13-0 record and its fifth straight California Division I state championship. De La Salle went 37-0 during his three years as a starter and had won 113 consecutive games at the time of his graduation. Played in the National High School All-Star game in Dallas on Dec. 31, 2000, tearing an ACL in his knee.
