Thigpen was injured during his senior season but still managed 123 carries for 806 yards and sixteen touchdowns in five games. He caught four passes for 112 yards. The senior was awarded First Team All-District running Back. He ran a 6.35 indoor 55 meter to tie for region first place.
As a junior, Thigpen missed three and a half games with a severe high ankle sprain, but still managed 79 carries for 632 yards and seven touchdowns while sharing the rock with Ryan Williams. He also made 32 tackles, broke up eight passes, blocked three field goals and one punt.
As a sophomore, he carried 60 times for 600 yards and seven touchdowns and also added a kickoff return for touchdown. He made 40 tackles on defense.
As a freshman, he carried 19 times for 210 yards and two touchdowns, also adding 30 tackles on defense.
He runs a 4.34 40-yard dash, 4.08 short shuttle and boasts a 10-foot broad jump. Thigpen is also a track standout ranked nationally in the 55-meter with a time of 6.41 seconds As a sophomore he won the Virginia AAA State Outdoor Championship in the 300-meter hurdles and his time of 37.42 was the fastest time recorded that year in Virginia.
Thigpen's uncle, Gene Lang, played running back for LSU before moving onto the NFL with the Denver Broncos and Atlanta Falcons. His father Douglas also played at the collegiate level at Southern Miss.
