| Selected to the 2002 TSWA Class A All-State team as a high school senior. Boomer was listed as a Top 100 player in the nation by the Bob Gibbons All Star Report. Rated as the 20th-best center in the country by Rivals.com. As a senior was selected All-District 9A, All-District Tournament, All-Region 5A Tournament and to the Class A All-State Tournament team. Earned first team All-State, All-District and All-Mid State honors as a junior. Led the state of Tennessee with 17 rebounds and 7 blocks per game. Herndon was ranked second in the state with 26.7 points as a senior. Finished his high school career as DCA’s all-time leader in rebounds (1,098) and blocked shots (511) while ranking second in scoring with 1,700 points. Led DCA to a 28-7 record and a second place finish in the district and region. Shattered a backboard on a dunk at Smith County. Dropped in 37 points on 18-of-22 shooting to go with 22 rebounds and five blocks in the Wildcats’ 68-67 win over South Fulton in the 2002 Class A state tournament. Recorded a quadruple-double with 11 points, 11 assists, 15 rebounds and 10 blocks against Friendship Christian. Led the state in rebounding and blocks as a junior with 13.3 boards and 7.7 rejections per game. Improved his scoring averages each season at DCA, averaging 12.4 points and 6.9 rebounds as a sophomore to 22.8 points, 13.3 rebounds as a junior. Coached by Presley Ramsey.
